May 2007: Metso commissions PaperPlat and The Packaging Greenhouse for delivering Advanced Process Simulations.

Metso commissioned PaperPlat and The Packaging Greenhouse (TPG) to perform a detailed simulation of the forming section of a multi-ply board machine using PaperSim. The objective of the project was to perform a bottleneck analysis for a probable future revamp of the board machine. Bottlenecks on the board machine were identified, as well as new optimisation opportunities. For instance, costs related to production process can be further minimised keeping the same characteristics and board structure.

The cooperation between TPG and PaperPlat is a very good example of synergy in which TPG supports PaperPlat with its board production expertise and with data from its multi-ply board pilot machine, Emma. Correspondingly, PaperPlat provides TPG and its customers with detailed process simulation based on the latest research available. This means that it has been possible to directly connect theoretical knowledge from university and research institutes with practical experience from board production and knowledge of customers needs.
